Our Surplus Food - Where does it go?
At Biotiful Gut Health, we’re dedicated to ensuring that everyone can achieve good Gut Health because we understand its importance in supporting overall well-being. Unfortunately, accessing the right foods can be challenging, especially for those facing food poverty. With the reduction of free school meals and rising food costs, many families may struggle to afford nutritious foods crucial for maintaining a healthy gut.
The gut microbiome plays a vital role in digestion, immune function, and even mental health, which is why nutrition is so important. When people don’t have access to balanced meals, their Gut Health can suffer. We believe that everyone deserves to have a happy and healthy gut, no matter their circumstances. That’s why we have partnered with charities who can use our surplus Kefir to help tackle this issue. It’s all about spreading the goodness and making sure nobody gets left behind when it comes to supporting their Gut Health.
Since August 2017, we’ve proudly collaborated with FareShare, a UK-based charity dedicated to fighting hunger and food waste. FareShare rescues surplus food from companies like ours, which would otherwise go to waste due to short expiry dates and redistributes it to frontline charities and community groups nationwide. Their mission is to tackle food poverty and environmental concerns by providing nutritious meals to vulnerable individuals and families while diverting surplus food from landfills. Together, we’ve delivered 1 million meals through our partnership since 2017.
Additionally, as a London-based company, we’ve partnered with City Harvest, a charity committed to rescuing surplus food from the food industry and redistributing it to those in need across the city. Their work not only addresses immediate hunger needs but also promotes healthier diets and builds stronger communities in London. In 2023 we donated 104.6 tonnes of food to City Harvest London, which resulted in the delivery of 249,085 meals to charities feeding their communities and led to the prevention of 388.9 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions by rescuing food for human consumption!
We’re all about keeping those guts happy and healthy every single day, and we’re pumped to expand our partnership to share our natural gut-friendly products with those who could really use them. We encourage others to support charities like City Harvest and FareShare too! Want to get involved? Check out their websites to see how you can lend a hand. Let’s spread the love and make sure everyone’s gut is feeling tip-top!
