What does kefir do?

Kefir contains probiotics that help to restore the healthy bacteria in your gut, which are needed to support not only your digestive health, but your overall health. Also with high levels of calcium to support bone health, antimicrobial properties to strengthen the immune system and anti-inflammatory properties to reduce inflammation (particularly issues like IBS), many people who regularly consume kefir see a considerable difference in their digestive function. The strong connection between gut health and mood can also result in improved mental health and sleep for people who regularly consume kefir and other gut-healthy foods. There are plenty of health benefits of kefir!

Can you make kefir at home?

You can make kefir at home, and if you’re wanting to give it a go, head over to our step by step guide on How To Make Kefir. It takes around a day overall because it needs time to ferment, but most of this will just be letting it sit! Give this a go, although if you’re wanting something convenient, we stock kefir in all major supermarkets across the UK!

What’s the difference between kefir and yogurt?

Kefir and yogurt are both made with milk however, the difference is in the process used. Kefir is made with kefir grains that are used to ferment the milk, whereas yogurt is fermented with bacterial cultures. They are both beneficial, however in terms of the gut, kefir contains more probiotics than yogurt as it’s fermented for longer and because of the use of kefir grains, the health benefits of kefir are stronger as it packs more of a gut-health-punch. As they’re so similar, you can use kefir in any recipe that you’d usually use yogurt in!

How often should you drink kefir?

The daily suggested serving for kefir is 250 millilitres or grams, to help maximise the health benefits. So, if you’re looking for convenience, you can simply buy bottled kefir drinks and have them with your breakfast, or keep them in the fridge at work. We also have individual pots of kefir yogurt and 350g tubs that are great for all the family. If you’re not big into just eating or drinking kefir, give our delicious flavours a go, or you can blend kefir into smoothies and sauces as an easy way to eat more of this superfood.

Is kefir gluten free?

Kefir is naturally gluten free, as the kefir grains aren’t related to wheats or oats in any way.

Can children drink kefir?

As long as your child doesn’t have any lactose allergies, they can drink kefir. Our kids kefir is packed with good bacteria, calcium and natural ingredients, to help support immunity and promote strong teeth and bones.
